Equine wound management

The British Horse Society is working with PhD student Anna Heritage from The University of Nottingham to create helpful evidence-based resources for taking care of horse wounds. This project aims to improve wound outcomes and owner confidence in managing wounds.

We’re currently testing these resources with surveys and interviews from horse owners and livery staff. These resources will help you:

  • Assess and manage wounds on your horse
  • Identify what your vet needs to know about the wound
  • Determine which wounds require veterinary advice or urgent attention
  • Prepare to manage minor wounds, including a list of first aid kit items

These resources are part of a PhD study and should only be used by people taking part in the study. Please do not share them. After the study, you can give feedback on these resources before they are shared with everyone.

We hope you find these resources helpful, and we look forward to hearing your feedback after the study has been completed.
