Protecting horses through prevention
Every day, our Horse Care and Welfare team works across the UK to protect horses and support the people who care for them. Through advice, education and practical support, we help owners take action early and stop small problems becoming serious welfare concerns.
We provide trusted advice, practical support and education to help owners care for their horses well. When concerns arise, we help people report welfare issues and work with owners and partners to safeguard horses. Our aim is to prevent horses ever reaching the point where rescue becomes necessary, breaking the cycle by supporting owners early.
From everyday advice and Horse Health Days to community clinics and compassionate support at the end of a horse's life, our work protects horses at every stage.
Working in communities across the UK
Our welfare teams work directly with horses and the people who care for them. Every visit, conversation and piece of advice helps prevent suffering and protect horse wellbeing. We:
- Visit yards and offer practical care advice
- Respond to welfare concerns raised by the public
- Help horses whose owners are facing difficult circumstances
- Work in vulnerable communities where horses need extra help
- Monitor situations over time to ensure horses remain safe and healthy
We also work with vets, local authorities and other charities to safeguard horses.
