Wellington Riding held a hugely successful annual Fun Ride and Pleasure Drive event on Sunday 2nd August, organised to support the British Horse Society (BHS)’s Covid Appeal. The route allowed riders and carriages to take in and enjoy the stunning scenery around the Wellington Estate, by kind permission of the Duke of Wellington. Wellington Riding would also like to extend their thanks to the BHS Vice President Lady Anne Vestey for supporting this event.
We welcomed over 250 riders and over 20 carriages onto the estate throughout the day. This was the first time carriage drivers have been welcomed onto the route too and this addition was definitely a success, especially with the support we gained both in advance and on the day from the BHS Regional Chair Kayti Harvey. In total, we raised £5050 across both the Fun Ride and Pleasure Drive which we are proud to present to the BHS’s Covid Appeal, enabling Wellington Riding to continue our efforts to support other equestrian establishments throughout this tough time.
We had a beautiful day for it, made even more special by the 17 volunteers we had to help us steward this event, including the BHS Regional Manager Hannah Marsh and the BHS Regional Access Field Officer Petronella Nattrass. We have received a number of emails retrospectively from riders stating how well organised the event was and how friendly and encouraging all the stewards were. A great job well done!
“Just a note to say thank you for such a wonderful and well organised ride yesterday. I had a fantastic time - the land was amazing to ride on and the stewards were so friendly. It was well organised and signposted. Thank you again and I hope to be able to attend again next year.”
“I just wanted to say a huge thank you to you, Wellington, the Wellington Estate owners and all of the volunteers for an amazing morning. It was my first fun ride and was the best experience for me and my horse who also loved it. Thanks again for a well organised, welcoming, safe and friendly event. See you again next year!”
