Changes to Ride Safe requirements for Stages 1 and 2
From 1 September 2026, the Ride Safe (Silver) Challenge Award will no longer be required for learners to achieve their Stage 1 Ride qualification. Instead, Ride Safe will become an entry requirement for Stage 2 Ride. This means learners will need to complete Ride Safe before they can book a Stage 2 Ride assessment.
What this means
- Learners will no longer need to complete Ride Safe to receive their Stage 1 Ride or Stage 1 Complete qualification certificates.
- This change only applies from 1 September 2026 and cannot be applied retrospectively or be backdated
- Learners who have already completed Stage 1 Ride, or will complete Stage 1 Ride before 31 August 2026, but have not yet completed Ride Safe are still encouraged to do so, so their certificates can be issued under the current requirements.
Why are we making this change?
We’re making this update to:
- Make the Stage 1 pathway clearer and easier to understand
- Help learners receive their Stage 1 certificates more quickly once they have met the assessment requirements.
Looking ahead
From 1 September 2026, learners will need to provide evidence that they have completed Ride Safe when booking a Stage 2 Ride assessment.
