Your membership card

Your membership card is now digital and will be landing in your inbox. Simply pop it into the digital wallet on your phone so you can easily access it when you need to check your insurance expiry date, use it to prove your insurance or when you need your membership number.

Keep up to date with the horse community

Stay connected with the BHS, as well as with the big equestrian issues that affect us all. You can find out about the equestrian events held in your area, as well as all the many local activities and training opportunities offered by your local BHS volunteer committee. 

Horse sale agreement

Our horse sale agreement helps you draw up a legally compliant contract for the sale of your horse or pony. It’ll cover all the specific terms and help to protect your interests should there be any disputes, while giving peace of mind to both parties. The Sale Agreement service is quick and easy to use. If you’re thinking of loaning your horse out or getting a horse on loan, our horse loan agreement covers everything you need to reduce any risks. Our sample loan agreement document can be used as a basic template and can be personalised to suit you.

Membership FAQs

If you have any questions about membership with the BHS, they may have been asked before. See all of our frequently asked questions about membership here. If you can't find an answer to your membership question, please call us on 02476 840506, email us at membership@bhs.org.uk or complete our online enquiry form and one of our team will get back to you shortly. 

How do I change my details?

If you need to change personal details such as your email address, home address or direct debit information, you can do so by emailing membership@bhs.org.uk or calling 02476 840506 and speaking to our friendly Membership team.

How do I upgrade to Gold Membership?

By upgrading to our BHS Gold Membership, you'll receive a wide range of additional benefits including:

  • Public liability insurance
  • Personal accident insurance
  • BHS 24/7 Legal Helpline
  • Access to BHS Career Pathways

How do I renew my membership?

Thank you for continuing to support the great work we do for every horse and rider.  

  • If you pay by Direct Debit, you will be notified before your renewal date, receive your membership card, then your membership will automatically renew  
  • If you pay by Direct Debit and would like to make changes to your membership, please call our Membership team 
  • If you don’t pay by Direct Debit, you will receive a renewal email prior to your renewal date  
What if I want to cancel my Direct Debit?

We’re sorry to see you go! But if you want to cancel your membership, simply notify the BHS and contact your bank to cancel the Direct Debit. 

What if I pay my membership a little late?

It’s important to pay your membership on time to ensure your member benefits, such as insurance, don’t lapse. The easiest and safest way to keep on top of your payments is by direct debit (UK bank accounts). You may still receive British Horse and our E-news for up to one month after a payment has not been received whilst we try to get in contact with you.

Horse Passports

A horse passport might seem like another bit of paperwork, especially if your horse is retired, but it's a really important responsibility of horse ownership. It helps to make sure your horse can be properly identified and keeps track of essential details like their vaccination history.
