The BHS Ride Leader Pathway

The BHS Ride Leader Pathway supports those working in a commercial equestrian centre.

Whether you assist or lead out hacks in a riding centre or lead longer treks and trails within an equestrian tourism centre, you can gain the necessary skills and confidence. There will also be opportunities to progress your career to a yard manager or run your own commercial centre.

Complete Horsemanship

Stage 1 Complete Horsemanship provides an industry recognised foundation of practical knowledge in riding, care and stable management to progress through any career pathway.

  • Stage 2

Ride Leader

BHS Stage 2 Ride Leader is for anyone looking to work at a commercial centre. If you have responsibility for taking out rides, hacks, treks or trails this career certificate ensures you have the foundation skills to work in the industry.

Trail Leader

Stage 3 Trail Leader provides a benchmark within the equine industry for those who would like to work in a commercial equestrian environment.

Senior Yard Manager

BHSQ Level 4 Senior Yard Manager (Stage 4) is for those looking to move into a management position in the equestrian industry. You may aspire to run a riding centre or become a senior groom within the sport.

You will learn a variety of skills and a wealth of knowledge to support your chosen career, including horse husbandry, identification and handling skills, grooming and tacking up, horse health and nutrition, organising escorted rides, horse riding skills for escorting clients and customer service.
