BHS President - Martin Clunes

Actor, writer and horse owner Martin Clunes took over as President of The British Horse Society on 1 June 2011. He is one of Britain’s most popular and well-regarded actors, and is known to millions from his stage and screen appearances, including Doc Martin, Reggie Perrin, Men Behaving Badly and most recently, Manhunt.

Beyond acting, Martin is well known for his documentaries, which include Buffalo Picture’s A Man and his Dogs, Horsepower and Heavy Horsepower which revealed his passion for horses, as well as Man to Manta, the Last Lemur Standing, The Islands of Britain, Australia and America and The Islands of the Pacific. In 2015 Martin was awarded the OBE by the Queen for services to Drama, Charity and the Dorset Community.

Martin’s wife Philippa and daughter Emily are also keen riders and together the family keep numerous four-legged friends on their farm in Dorset. He enjoys nothing more than getting out for a ride with one of his horses and has been spotted out and about with his 18hh Clydesdale, Bruce.

Martin is a passionate supporter of The British Horse Society and is always a warm and friendly presence at our awards ceremonies, charity race days and many events across our busy programme.
