The BHS values diversity and equality. By respecting and using diversity and equality it can maximise its impact through meeting individual needs and staying in touch with the changing societies in which it works
The BHS aims to ensure that all individuals have equal opportunities to take part in equestrian activities irrespective of age, sex, gender identity, disability, race, ethnic origin, nationality, marital or civil partnership status, pregnancy or maternity, religion, social background or, sexual orientation. This includes all individuals in all roles of the industry.
The BHS will ensure that those within the BHS’s direct control adopt, develop, take ownership of and implement the BHS policy and any subsequent actions from the equality plan.
Our equality policy is supported by our codes of conduct. The BHS’s recruitment and selection procedures are fair, transparent and meet the appropriate legal requirements. The BHS has also signed up to the British Equestrian Federation’s Equal Opportunities and Equality Policy.

Ensuring equal opportunity for all
No job applicant, employee, or volunteer with the BHS will receive less than favourable treatment on the grounds of age, sex, gender identity, disability, race, ethnic origin, nationality, marital or civil partnership status, pregnancy or maternity, religion, or sexual orientation.
We will take all reasonable steps to ensure that there will be open access to all those who wish to participate in equestrian activities and ensure that they are treated fairly. Through education and awareness campaigns, our aim is to increase involvement of all groups at all levels.
