BHS can update ownership details in BHS issued/overstamped passports only.
If you have acquired a horse with a BHS passport, you must update the ownership details within 30 days of acquisition.
How to apply:
- Download and print BHS change of ownership form
- All intended owners (16+ only) must complete and sign the form
- Passport and completed form to be submitted to BHS passport office
Any non-BHS passports will be immediately returned to the sender by second class delivery and will then need to be sent to the original issuing organisation. If you are unsure as to who you should apply to for the change of ownership you require, please contact BHS passport office for assistance.
Simply writing the new owner’s details into the passport does not constitute an official change of ownership. The passport must be returned to the original issuer who will update both their database, and the passport itself. On BHS passports, a formal change of ownership can be identified by an embossed mark or BHS stamp and an official signature from BHS HQ.
Joint Ownership
If you wish to register joint ownership in your BHS passport, all intended registered parties must complete the BHS change of ownership form and submit it to the office with the passport.
The CED does not record joint ownership; in the event that joint owners are registered by the BHS, one sole owner will be recorded by the CED.
Cost
£17.50 for horse owners (£14.50 for registered equine charities)
Upon receipt of the passport and change of ownership application, the BHS will transfer the ownership within 10 working days. Please be aware that incorrect paperwork can cause delays. The passport will be returned via Royal Mail’s 2nd Class Signed For™ service at no additional cost.
FastTrack service is also available at an additional £25, and will ensure the application is processed within 1 working day, and is returned 1st class signed for.
