The Wormwood Scrubs Pony Centre is an oasis based in the heart of London. The centre was founded in 1989 with the mission of improving the lives of inner city children and young people, including those with physical disabilities & learning difficulties.
Volunteers play a very important role in the day to day running of the centre. Anyone interested in becoming a volunteer is welcome to make contact with us.
We have a team of 7 wonderful small ponies suitable for the kindergarten children, a team of stunning 7 Camargues for the older youngsters, 2 adorable donkeys, 3 larger horses and 3 beautiful black and white stable-yard cats.
There is an indoor arena, a small outdoor arena, an outdoor riding track, a well equipped equestrian classroom, a Racewood mechanical horse and an excellent equine reference library. There are several small paddocks enabling ponies to be turnout for socialisation and exercise. All our facilities are set in a beautiful traditional stable yard called the Loriners'Yard.
The majority of our work is with children and young people but if there is time and space we can offer a restricted number of adult lessons.
On Saturdays there is a small cafe run by volunteers. People can sit in the serenity garden or spend some time gardening in the vegetable patch.
Visitors are always welcome to come to see the centre but please contact us before coming as we are extremely busy and we like to personally show visitors around.
