About me
I have been coaching for over 15 years, with more than 20 years of experience working with horses in a variety of settings. I have ridden since childhood and have worked at large yards, in a riding school environment, and for many years as a freelancer. I also spent 18 months in Germany as a working student for Anja Beran, further developing my understanding of classical training principles.
I coach a wide range of adult riders, from those with their first horse to more experienced riders looking to refine their horse’s way of going or improve their own riding. My areas of focus include schooling, rider position, and the correct use of aids, alongside classical dressage and groundwork. My groundwork approach draws on a blend of natural horsemanship, the TRT Method, and classical in-hand work in the bridle. While I do not compete myself, I support and coach clients who do.
My coaching is centred on a compassionate, thoughtful approach, with a strong emphasis on developing the partnership between horse and rider. I understand the challenges of nervousness and loss of confidence, and I work sensitively to support riders through these experiences. I have a particular interest in rider biomechanics and how the use of the rider’s body influences the horse, and I take great satisfaction in helping partnerships grow in confidence, harmony, and understanding.
I am especially passionate about the benefits of classical training in improving a horse’s posture, movement, and overall way of going. My client-centred approach includes one-to-one coaching, as well as ongoing support between sessions through video feedback and answering questions.
My coaching philosophy prioritises a horse-centred approach, working with each horse’s nature to find the most effective and sympathetic way to support their physical development. I believe that a strong, positive relationship between horse and rider is the foundation of all good training.
Lessons are £50 and typically last between 45 minutes and one hour, depending on the needs of the horse and rider. I aim to always finish sessions on a positive note, so timings remain flexible. I travel within a 20-mile radius of Hitchin; travel charges may apply if there is only one rider in a particular area.
