About me

I have more than 15 years of coaching experience, with a strong background in the riding school industry. My work has focused particularly on leisure riders, career students, and riders of a wide range of ages and abilities. I have supported riders working towards professional qualifications, competition goals, and personal confidence, as well as many enthusiastic children developing their skills and enjoyment of riding. I also have extensive experience working with Pony Club centres. 

I primarily coach children and have a strong background in supporting neurodivergent riders. I also coach adults in both private and group lessons. In 2023, I won BHS Coach of the Year (centre based) in recognition of my work to make riding more accessible to all. I am particularly confident in delivering group lessons that are enjoyable, inclusive, and well structured, while still giving each rider individual attention and keeping the group cohesive.

I teach a wide variety of riders, from beginners to those working towards specific goals. I use a broad range of exercises, especially pole work and pole clinics, to develop confidence, balance, and understanding. I relate well to everyday riders, drawing on my own background in riding schools and my experience of not owning my own horse until I was 39. I understand the realities of limited facilities, green horses, and the practical challenges many riders face. I also build strong connections with children by using clear, simple instructions and helping them develop knowledge as well as riding skills.

My aim is to develop riders’ knowledge so they understand what they are doing and why, rather than simply following instructions. I use goal setting and practical “homework” to help clients continue progressing between lessons. I want riders to leave each session with tools they can use independently, especially when a coach is not present. I also enjoy helping owners refresh their riding when it has become stale, making both riding and horse ownership feel enjoyable again.
