About me

My equestrian background includes eventing up to Intermediate–Novice / 2* level and producing horses from youngsters through to Novice BE and Medium dressage. I have 15 years of coaching experience, specialising in eventing. Using core principles that apply across dressage and jumping, I build arena exercises that develop the rider’s technique, improve the horse’s way of going, build confidence, and prepare combinations for competition scenarios. I have extensive experience developing young horses, as well as adapting work for older horses so they can continue to thrive and enjoy their jobs. I coach a wide range of riders—from pony club tots to those competing at 1m SJ/XC and elementary dressage, including complete beginners, competitive riders, and adults wanting to build confidence and have fun with their horses.

I genuinely enjoy working with a variety of clients to create plans that help them achieve their goals, whether that’s gaining confidence out hacking, feeling more secure in the arena, or tackling more technical questions on the flat or over fences. I’m also happy to work with more complex horses and to problem-solve in a way that always puts welfare first. Helping horse-and-rider partnerships enjoy their work and progress is incredibly rewarding; every pair is different, and it’s all about finding simple, effective solutions and those brilliant “lightbulb moments.”

My training approach begins with assessing both horse and rider, discussing goals, and understanding their current way of working. From there, we can build a realistic and supportive training plan to help them progress from where they are to where they want to be. This can include riding the horse myself to gain a clear sense of how they go independently of the rider, which often helps both horse and rider understand what is needed. While goal-setting can be important, I believe flexibility is key—many riders juggle busy lives—so I’m equally happy coaching purely for enjoyment as I am helping combinations work toward specific competitive aims.

My coaching philosophy centres on solid basics: rider position, the use and effectiveness of the aids, and the horse’s responsiveness. Once these foundations are in place, we build them into more complex exercises. Good basics make the harder work easier. Confidence-building is always at the heart of my sessions; while it’s sometimes useful to push boundaries, it must always be constructive. I’m happy to work at whatever level horse and rider need—whether that’s poles on the ground and suppling work in walk, or much more advanced exercises. I always try to find something each horse can achieve so they can try, learn, and be rewarded; this is how you build a partnership where the horse genuinely wants to work with you.

I aim to tailor my coaching to each client’s goals and am always available between sessions for support. If a particular issue arises, I’m happy to get on the horse to help clarify what is being asked and to give the rider a different perspective.

My pricing starts at £30 per lesson, with tailored rates available for clinics and group sessions. I am based between Braintree and Saffron Walden in Essex.
