About me

I have over 50 years of experience in the equestrian world, covering a wide range of disciplines. I am a BHS Level 4 Coach and have been coaching for 15 years, I specialise in coaching riders of all levels—from beginners and grassroots riders to more experienced individuals looking to build confidence, improve technique, or transition from one discipline to another.

My equestrian career began with training at the prestigious Talland School of Equitation. From there, I went on to compete successfully in show jumping up to Foxhunter level, team chasing at Open level, and eventing to BE Novice. I’ve also ridden in point-to-points, where I not only rode but trained multiple winners, and I have competed on the flat under BHA rules. My hunting experience includes both traditional and drag hunting.

With 28 years of experience as a licensed racehorse trainer including seven years point to point riding and training, I bring a specialist understanding to working with ex-racehorses (ROR). I am passionate about helping these horses transition into successful second careers. My deep knowledge of the demands of racing—both physically and mentally—allows me to tailor programmes that address their unique needs post-racing.

In addition to coaching l can advise and assist in the backing and bringing on of young horses, develop fitness programmes for both horse and rider, and offer lunge lessons to improve rider position and horse way of going.

My coaching philosophy centres around building confidence and trust between horse and rider. I aim to develop each rider’s feel, balance, and empathy without pushing them beyond their capabilities. I set realistic, achievable goals and believe in progressing at a pace that suits both horse and rider. I take pride in nurturing partnerships and creating a positive, encouraging environment where riders can grow and flourish.

As a trainer, I take a patient and sympathetic approach to each horse’s development, carefully assessing their mental and physical readiness. I don’t believe in strict timelines—instead, I remain flexible, adapting plans when needed to ensure the best outcomes.

Rates: One-to-one coaching starts from £40 per hour. Group sessions (with riders and horses of similar levels) are available at a negotiable rate. Travel is charged at 40p per mile from my home, and I’m happy to travel up to 25 miles (also negotiable).

With four decades of racehorse and point-to-point training experience, and a lifetime of riding and competing, I’ve experienced the highs and lows of the sport. I now want to share that knowledge and passion to support, guide, and encourage others on their equestrian journey.
