Remote coaching guidelines:

1.    Ensure you take reasonable precautions at all times per the policy wording.
2.    Carry out a risk assessment and ensure the rider is taking appropriate measures to ensure their own safety in the absence of a coach there in person.
3.    Ask the rider to sign a disclaimer (and request an updated disclaimer on an annual basis). The disclaimer should say that the rider is responsible for their own safety whilst being coached remotely. The rider will ensure that the riding area is safe, their tack and equipment is safe and that they will always have somebody else in attendance in case of emergencies.
4.    Ensure you have emergency contact details for the rider and the full address of the premises where coaching is being undertaken.
5.    Complete rider registration forms
6.    Ensure that if you are coaching anyone under the age of 18, you have a full disclaimer signed by a parent and the parent is visibly present during the lesson.

BHS does not encourage jumping lessons to be undertaken remotely.  Any jumping activities must be very carefully considered and under no circumstances should coaches train over cross country fences or fixed/solid fences, including arena cross country type jumps.  If jumping is required you must have a first aid trained person in attendance and all related distances must be specifically measured in accordance with the coaches instructions. The additional person present on the ground must be visible at all times during the lesson.

Please note remote coaching only comes in effect when you renew in 2026. If you require the cover sooner, please contact the APC Team.
