The King's Foundation and BHS Scotland Fun Horse Show at Dumfries House, Ayrshire

At Dumfries House, Cumnock, KA18 2NJ - access is only available from the A70 as if you are accessing the main public carpark and stewards will direct you to the parking field from there.

Thanks to The King's Foundation and Dumfries House, our second year of this exciting show.

This is a low key fun horse show to encourage people to take part. Please come along and support this exciting event. On the day, the dog show and farmers market will also be taking place in the events field (subject to weather conditions).

Pre entries close on Tuesday 14 July 2026 at 10pm unless the classes are full before this date. Numbers will be restricted in each class.

Pre entries:

Classes 1-16 are £10 when pre-entered or £15 on the day.  On the day entries will only be accepted if there is space.

Classes 17 & 18 are £5 when pre-entered or £10 on the day.

All bookings are subject to a small booking fee to cover the booking and payment processing charges.

First Aid cover will be provided on the day and first aid fees are included within the entry fees.

Ring 1:  Horse/Pony Ridden Section. Ring starts at 10am. Judge is Pam Dykes.

1. Best Turned Out Horse or Pony (ridden). Rider any age. Sponsored by Fergushill Riding Stables and Amayzing Saddlery Ltd.

2. Novice Horse or Pony. Open to mare or gelding, 4 years old and over, no group canter. Horse/pony not to have won any showing class. This class is aimed at novices & young ponies/horses. All exhibits to perform individual show and will not be ridden by the Judge. Sponsored by the Glasgow Equine Hospital and Practice.

3. Ridden Show Hunter. Open to mare or gelding, 4 years old and over. Horses entered in Class 3 cannot enter Class 4. All exhibits to perform individual show and will not be ridden by the Judge. Sponsored by Titwood Equestrian.

4. Riding Horse or Hack. Open to mare or gelding, 4 years old and over. Horses entered in Class 4 cannot enter Class 3. All exhibits to perform individual show and will not be ridden by the Judge. Sponsored by Muirmill Equestrian Centre.

5. Coloured Horse or Pony Ridden. Open to mare or gelding, 4 years old and over. Riders any age but suitable for the height of exhibit. All exhibits to perform individual show and will not be ridden by the Judge. Sponsored by D&H.

6. Best Cob or Cob Type, 4 years old and over, any height. Riders any age but suitable for the height of exhibit. All exhibits to perform individual show and will not be ridden by the Judge. Sponsored by TopSpec.

7. Retrained Racehorse Ridden. Open to all Thoroughbred Horses which have raced or been in training. All exhibits to perform individual show and will not be ridden by the Judge. Sponsored by Lucinda Russell Racing

8. Veteran Horse or Pony Ridden. Open to mare or gelding, 16 years old and over. No spurs. All exhibits to perform individual show and will not be ridden by the Judge. Sponsored by Dengie Feeds.

9Ridden Sports Horse. Open to mare or gelding, 4 years old and over, exceeding 148cm, showing potential for competition focusing on athletic movement, correct conformation and good manners under saddle. All exhibits to perform individual show and will not be ridden by the Judge. Sponsored by Supplies For Industry.

10. Riding Club Horse/Pony. Open to mare/gelding, 4 years old and over. A small jump may be included at the judge’s discretion. Snaffle bridles only and no spurs. Competitors to be a current member of an affiliated riding club/pony club. All exhibits to perform individual show and will not be ridden by the Judge Sponsored by Ayr Riding Club.

Championship 1st & 2nd prize winners from classes 1 – 10 to be decided on completion of this section.

Supreme Championship in Ring 1 at end of all classes.

Ring 2:  Horse/Pony Fun Novelty Classes. Ring starts at 11am. Judge is Gillian McNinch.

11. In-hand Horse or Pony. Open to mare or gelding. Sponsored by Equestrian Fitness Scotland.

12. Lead Rein Pony. Open to mare or gelding, 4 years old and over, rider 10 years old and under. Snaffle bridles only and lead rein to be attached to noseband. Sponsored by Boydstone Farm Stables.

13. First Ridden Pony. Open to mare or gelding, 4 years old and over, rider 12 years old and under. Snaffle bridles only. Sponsored by Thistle Equine Vets.

14. Open Ridden Mountain & Moorland (may be split into small and large breeds depending on numbers). Sponsored by Cromagtir Welsh Mountain Ponies.

15. Family Horse or Pony Ridden. Open to mare or gelding, 4 years old and over. Sponsored by Turnberry Equestrian Centre.

16. Local Horse or Pony. Open to mare or gelding, 4 years old and over, stabled (or rider living) within 15 miles of Dumfries House. Sponsored by Ros Cartner Catering.

17. Horse & Hound. Best pair judged on compatibility of horse/pony and dog. The dog must be on the lead and led by a separate person than the rider/handler. Open to mare or gelding, 4 years old and over. Sponsored by Gibb of Galston.

18. Fancy Dress Class - open to children and adults (judging will be separate). Correct hat must be worn if ridden. Open to mare or gelding, 4 years old and over. Class is open to ridden, in-hand or on-foot with no pony or horse. Sponsored by Cumnock Swimming Pool.

Championship 1st & 2nd prize winners from classes 11-18 to be decided on completion of this section.

Supreme Championship in Ring 1 at end of all classes - Sponsored by Robinson & Varini Farriers.

Rules & Regulations

  • The organiser reserves the right to cancel or amalgamate the classes in the event of insufficient entries.
  • Whilst every effort has been made to avoid classes clashing, no class will be held up. Latecomers will only be admitted to the ring at the discretion of the Judge and the Secretary.
  • The Judge’s decision is final.
  • The Show Organiser or any of its assistants or stewards will in no way be responsible for any loss, injury or damage that may happen to exhibitors or their assistants or other members of the public, or to any animal or property or to any vehicle brought into the showground or leaving the same.
  • All riders must wear hard hats with a fixed harness to comply with the 2026 BHS guidelines.
  • The show will be held in accordance with The British Horse Society Guidelines for the Welfare of Horses and Ponies at Events’. Copies of the guidelines are available from The British Horse Society (www.bhs.org.uk) or a paper copy will be supplied by the BHS upon request.
  • All riders should be safely and smartly dressed. Long hair should be in a hairnet and tied in such a way as to not hang below the collar.
  • The safety of all children showing animals is the full responsibility of their parent or guardian.
  • Please be sensible if your horse or a horse in your stables has been ill in the month running up to the event, please don’t come along. The pony or horse’s passport and a current valid vaccination certificate (annual vaccination) must be brought on the day. Otherwise, entry may be refused.
  • The organiser reserves the right to substitute the judge at short notice if conditions warrant.
  • No stallions are allowed admission to this event unless they have received prior permission.
  • Any objections that arise must be lodged with the Secretary with a £30 deposit up to 30 minutes following the event concerned. The deposit will be returned if the objection is sustained.
  • An exhibitor may not knowingly exhibit a horse/pony bred, sold, leased, produced, broken or trained by the Judge and/or their immediate family.
  • The Show Organiser reserves the right to refuse entries from any person without reasons being given for such refusal.
  • No foals under the age of 3 weeks and must be led at all times.
  • Competitors are required to take home any rubbish as a matter of courtesy.
  • No farrier will be available.
  • Acceptance of the foregoing provisions will be a condition of entry.
  • No lunging in warm up arenas.
  • Please leave the parking area as you found it - don’t muck out your trailer or lorry in the parking area, and take your dung home with you. Thank you!
  • Save for death or personal injury caused by the negligence of the organisers or anyone for whom they are in law responsible, neither the organisers of any event to which these rules apply, nor British Horse Society (Scotland) nor Dumfries House, nor any agent, employee, representative of these bodies accepts liability for any accident, loss, damage, injury or illness to horses, owners, riders, spectators, land or any other person or property whatsoever, whether caused by their negligence, breach of contract or in any other way whatsoever.
  • No entries will be refunded.
