Presenter: Dr Jo Winfield FBHS, British Eventing Coach & BD List 3 Judge.

Jo Winfield has not only achieved the highest accolade of the BHS: Fellowship of the BHS, she is also one of our chief BHS Assessors, a BHS Inspector as well as a British Eventing Coach and a List 3 British Dressage Judge. Jo has been awarded a Professional Doctorate in Sport and Exercise (PDSE) and is an Equine Principle Lecturer at the world renowned Hartbury University in Gloucestershire.

We are extremely lucky to welcome Jo to deliver this informative training day which will be focusing on how to get the best from a 20 x 40 m arena.

Through a combination of demonstration lessons, practical group sessions, and focused discussions, you will develop a toolkit of exercises and teaching strategies tailored to restricted spaces. Whether addressing novice riders' need for a contained environment, improving accuracy for dressage test riding, or designing effective jumping exercises within tight parameters, this training will equip you with practical solutions to common coaching and riding challenges. The day concludes with an opportunity to share experiences and discuss specific questions about applying these concepts in your own teaching and riding practice.

This practical training day focuses on maximising the potential of a 20 x 40 m arena—one of the most common teaching/riding spaces in British riding establishments. While smaller arenas can initially seem limiting, they offer distinct advantages for developing accuracy, control, and rider responsibility when used strategically. Throughout the day, we will explore how to turn spatial constraints into coaching opportunities across multiple disciplines and rider levels.

Across the day, there will be 7 practical discussion‑led sessions, looking at flatwork/dressage in the morning approx. 9.30am - 12.15pm and then polework and jumping in the afternoon, 1.15pm - 4pm.  Half day tickets can be purchased.

This day is open to everyone and will be of particular interest to riders, coaches, and those training for BHS Coach assessments.

Take advantage of our early bird rate and save £5 on your ticket if you book before 31st March 2026! Tickets bought after 31st March 2026, £50 General/£45 BHS Accredited Professional Coaches.  Half day general admission tickets can be purchased for £30, for either the morning or afternoon sessions.
