This informative and practical CPD day will explore how coaches can effectively develop their clients' riding skills and knowledge without encouraging progression before the necessary foundations have been established.
Participants will learn strategies, exercises, and training approaches that keep riders motivated, engaged, and continually developing, while ensuring equine welfare remains at the centre of the coaching process.
The day will also address some of the challenging conversations coaches may face with riders and parents when expectations for progression exceed a rider's current level of skill, experience, or understanding. We will discuss practical ways to manage these situations professionally, helping riders build confidence and competence at an appropriate pace.
Topics covered include:
🐴 Developing Riders Without Rushing Progression
Exercises and coaching techniques to support long-term rider development.
Keeping clients engaged while focusing on strong foundations and correct training principles.
Balancing rider goals with the welfare and wellbeing of the horse.
🐴 Managing Difficult Conversations
Handling expectations from riders and parents.
Recognising when riders are being pushed too far or too quickly.
Communicating the importance of establishing core skills before advancing.
🐴 Saddle Fit Awareness for Coaches
Key indicators coaches can look for when assessing saddle fit.
Considerations for riding school horses carrying multiple riders.
Understanding how saddle fit can impact horse comfort, performance, and welfare.
🐴 Rider and Horse Symmetry
Simple checks that can be carried out to identify potential asymmetries in the horse.
Assessing rider balance and alignment.
Practical demonstrations using the mechanical horse to bring together rider symmetry, horse symmetry, and saddle fit considerations, while exploring ways to improve rider effectiveness both on and off the horse.
This CPD event is ideal for coaches looking to enhance their coaching practice, improve client communication, and develop a welfare-led approach to rider progression and horse management, especially those based in a riding school.
