£240 per horse & rider

If you enjoy the freedom of riding without a guide but with the help of easy to follow maps then our self-  guided horse holidays are perfect for you.  Our self-guided holidays offer a great choice of safe off-road routes, well organised  livery facilities and a choice of five luxury, self-catering cottages which overlook the stables and paddocks. We have been welcoming horses on holiday for over 10 years and can assure you of a warm welcome and a well-organised yard with everything you need to enjoy some special time with your horse. We are a 'BHS Horses Welcome' establishment and many of our customers return year after year. Our location is a horse rider's dream. We have stunning scenery, an extensive bridleway network and, because the area is still relatively unknown, you can ride for miles and hardly see a soul. Peace and quiet is hard to find in today’s world but that’s exactly what you will find here at Street Farm. Our gate leads directly onto the fellside, with a choice of safe, off-road routes in each direction. Within minutes you can join the Pennine Bridleway and close-by we have the Eden Valley Loop bridleways. We have short routes, long routes, flatter routes and wilder routes, where you can ride along the top of the fells. There are routes with pubs and routes with the beautiful picnic stops by rivers, or even next to a ruined castle. We have routes with wonderful long canters across along green lanes and wide open commons. Roadwork is minimal and only involves quiet lanes, mostly unfenced and with little traffic. We have an excellent knowledge of all the trails in our area and will try and help you decide which route may suit your ability.

Maps are provided for the following routes which start and finish at Street Farm:

Route 1-  Howgill Trail, 10 miles. A lovely varied route, following a bridle path through the Howgill Fells

Route 2 - Mallerstang Trail, 10 miles.  Ride across open common and beside the River Eden, following the Lady Anne Way.

Route 3 - Pennine Bridleway Wild Boar Fell, 5 or 10 miles. A more challenging high route, up and over Wild Boar Fell

Route 4 - Crosby Garrett Loop, 18 miles. A super, long-distance ride, with miles of open-common riding

Route 5 - Village Ride, 5 miles. A scenic ride to Ravenstonedale village, along quiet lanes and bridleways

We also have shorter routes of around 3 miles, as well as several Park & Ride routes within a half hour drive, for those who fancy exploring the wider district.

At the end of each day, you can look forward to a restful night in one of our 5 cottages which overlook the stables and paddocks. Recently converted from a range of stone barns they offer a wonderful blend of rustic charm with contemporary interiors, wood-burning stoves for cooler months, power showers, and crisp, white linen. There is even a spa room, with hot tub, to help relieve any sore muscles! In the evenings, you can choose to stay in and cook for yourself, or eat out. If you are looking to take your horse on holiday with great hacking and would like to support of an experienced guide and the company of others then you will love our Trail Riding Horse Camps. It’s a great way to meet new friends  and spend some quality time with your horse in a relaxed and non-competitive setting. Each morning there is a guided 2 hour trail ride and a fun based horsey activity in the afternoon focusing on improving trust and confidence between you and your horse. You will be sharing one of our lovely farmhouses with your fellow camp riders which overlook the yard and paddocks. The evenings are informal with everyone heading off to the local pub for dinner.

We keep the number of horse and riders on each camp limited to 5 plus a guide. Your guide each day will be either Alison Muir or an equally experienced guide. Alison is a qualified BHS Ride Leader and has been guiding horse and riders across Cumbria and the Yorkshire Dales for the last 12 year. We have an excellent choice of routes which begin at our gate and lead directly onto the bridle paths. The routes are a varied mixture of grass, stone paths and quiet lanes. This is fell country so please expect some hills. The area is very quiet and we can often ride all day and meet hardly anyone.

Over the last 10 years we have been welcoming riders with their own horses to Street Farm to enjoy the marvellous choice of safe hacking routes, lovely accommodation and purpose built livery facilities for horses on holiday. We run a small and friendly yard which is well organised ensuring you have a safe and enjoyable holiday with us. Our horse camps are ideal for horse owners who would like the sociability of joining a group of riders and want to enjoy some great hacking with the benefit of a guide. The guided rides each day are around 2 - 2.5 hours in duration ridden at mostly at walk with occasional trotting and steady canters.  The camp is activities in the afternoon are very relaxed and  fun designed to encourage trust and confidence between you and your horse.

Your horse must be aged 5 and over and be known to be calm and sensible when riding with horses they do not know. Due to the type of terrain our camps are more suited to horses who are used to riding in wide open spaces, up and down hills, through streams & farmyards. When riding on the open common we encounter flocks of sheep and fell ponies who graze freely on the fells, most of these conditions are what you would encounter on a pleasure ride. As guides, we will take charge of the route and the speed. We have a very good understanding of the terrain including safe places where we can enjoy safe canters. Whilst roadwork is kept to a minimum using quiet lanes your horse must be safe on the road. Riders are required to wear hi viz. Stallions are not permitted. You will also need to provide us with a copy of your third party liability insurance, if you do not have insurance we suggest you contact the British Horse Society who offer an excellent package of membership which includes liability insurance for you and your horse. Please click here for more details. Please contact Alison if you would like to chat more about our camps and suitability for you and your horse.
