Venue by kind permission of Aberdeenshire Council
Landranger 38. Grid NJ975176 Postcode: AB23 8XG
From North turn LEFT off A90 AWPR at Balmedie junction, follow signs to “Country Park” and “Beach”.
From West and South, follow A90 AWPR to Balmedie junction, EXIT FIRST LEFT, follow road back under AWPR and follow signs to “Balmedie Country Park” and “Beach”.
IF YOU MISS THE BALMEDIE TURN-OFF, take the next exit (Foveran) and return on the southbound carriageway.
The route follows a signposted route through the dunes and crossing the solid bridge over the Eigie Burn (do NOT use the pedestrian boardwalk bridge) to the beach which is wide and open at low tide all the way to the Ythan Estuary. Total ride distance is 10 miles.
Balmedie Country Park can be very busy if the weather is good. It is essential that all riders show due consideration to other members of the public. Please note that Balmedie Beach Wheelchairs now run wheelchairs onto the beach on Sundays. We will also try to get everybody out (and back) early before it gets too busy and before the tide comes back in. Therefore ALL horses must start before 11 am. No late arrivals please.
Parking will be at the southern end of the country park. Continue past the normal horsebox parking along to the end of the tarmac (bollards will be lowered). As parking is limited, please share transport where possible. ALL MUCK MUST BE REMOVED FROM THE PARKING AREA – PLEASE TAKE IT HOME.
Toilets: the toilets in the main car park at the entrance to the park will be open, as will the Sand Bothy for hot and cold beverages, snacks and ice-creams.
