About Stockport Equestrian Access & Bridleway Association

SEABA has recently enlarged its area to encompass the whole of Stockport, and revised its name to include all equestrian access.

SEABA Aims and Activities (your membership money helps towards these):

  • To encourage all riders to join SEABA to help safeguard the bridleways (BW's) restricted byways (RB's) in their own areas.
  • To define existing BW's/RB's, identify those in need of maintenance and record them on the definitive map.
  • To persuade local authorities and landowners to create BW's/RB's where needed. Sometimes it is only necessary to create a few short stretches between existing BW's/RB's to build a network enabling riders to avoid dangerous roads.
  • To encourage local authorities to increase/provide grass verges where riding on roads is unavoidable, as per Highways Act 1980 Code of Conduct (keep to Public Rights of Way, close gates, ride slowly past livestock, have consideration for other users and obey the country code).

To further these aims please join us so that our influence will be stronger when we approach our Local Authority regarding the opening/reopening of BW's/RB's in our area. Our committee reports regularly to members via meetings and Facebook page. If you are interested in joining our committee or one of our sub access groups please let us know, we would welcome new members.
