Mid Sussex Area Bridleways Group
The area in which the Mid Sussex Area BHS Bridleways Group operates is defined as that area lying approximately within the borders of the coast to the south, the river Ouse to the east, the River Adur to the west, and east-west line drawn through Balcombe to the north. It includes a long section of the South Downs Way, and much of it falls within the beautiful South Downs National Park.
We are involved with everything that affects riders and carriage drivers on the byways, bridleways and roads in this area.
Most of what we do is around day-to-day access and maintenance issues of the routes we ride and drive, whilst some issues and projects are more long-term.
We look ahead to safeguard against future problems by:
- Protecting existing bridleways and seeking opportunities for new routes
- Ensuring bridleways are correctly recorded on the Definitive Map
- Working with the 3 local Authorities regarding road safety, verges & horsebox parking places
- Attending meetings where necessary regarding all aspects of development in the countryside, including Public Inquiries
- Organising clearances of overgrown bridleways
- Fundraising to facilitate assisting local authorities to implement beneficial schemes when money is tight
We have organised Boot Sales, Book Sale, and a Coach Trip to Knightbridge Barracks in London. We organise a Guest Speaker every year at our AGM to speak about horse related matters. Also a two course supper for our members.
We have contributed towards costs of a new bridleway “Egrets Way” Lewes.
