A bit about me...
"When I was 3, my mother bought her first horse plus a Dartmoor for my sister and me. I am now 65 and proud to have ridden and owned horses ever since. I pony clubbed, hunted, showed in-hand and under saddle but always loved most of all riding out in the countryside on preferably a Welsh Cob!
At one point I had 15 horses but now own/ride at least 2-3 times per week a couple of wonderful Welsh Cobs, Alfie the Highland, Sammy the Haflinger and P/B Welsh/T'Bred X Dolly will soon be finishing maternity leave after producing PB Welsh Cob Okeden Shah this summer! Growing up on an Arabian/Welsh Section D stud, my mother was for years BHS Welfare officer and I have been a member for many years.
I was used from a very early age to riding alone on the roads including crossing the busy A63 dual carriageway outside Hull (wait for a gap, to the middle, wait for another gap in the trucks and then across to the farmland beyond!) so living on the edge of London and Essex and riding on the busy roads and getting my horses also used to doing so, has never phased me. I have set up a riding network and large team of riders and supporters and this is my greatest achievement, making so many wonderful friends through this and also through the BHS network.
I was so keen to volunteer for the BHS as I am passionate about horse riders and carriage drivers being able to access forest riding, bridle and permissive paths and encouraging riders to be confident enough to be out and about on the roads in order to reach them. For sure I aim to continue riding as long as my hips let me and to supporting the BHS too and hope in 2026 to help open up new off-road routes.
How to choose 3 words to sum up horses? I would say even on the muddiest and coldest winter's day the words that spring to mind to describe what horses bring are joy, sanity and friendship (plus if allowed one more, that feeling of pure exhilaration when cantering or galloping through beautiful forests!)"
