Welfare concern - 'I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here' adverts

The British Horse Society would like to respond to the welfare concerns depicted in the promotional scenes for ITV's 'I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here' featuring presenters Ant and Dec, where Ant McPartlin is riding a horse highly unsuitable for his size.

We want to make it clear how important it is to ride a horse that is suitable for your size and proportions. The size of the rider can have a significant impact on the ability of the horse to move freely and comfortably, leading to serious welfare issues including pain, discomfort and lameness in horses. It is vitally important for both the horse and rider that they are suitably matched in order to have a safe riding experience.

To find out more about rider suitability and other advice on how to build and maintain a strong partnership with your horse, take a look at our new scheme, Stable Mates.
