Announcing our new Chair, Karen Silcock

On Thursday 11 September, the Board of Trustees elected Karen Silcock as the new Chairperson of the BHS. Karen has board level experience of other membership organisations and has developed financial strategies for not-for-profit and charitable organisations, with understanding of the financial implications of strategic and operational plans.

A long-term member of the BHS and a horse owner, horses and equestrian sports are a major part of Karen’s life. She’s passionate about the benefits that interaction with horses can bring to people in terms of physical and mental health and has first-hand knowledge, as an owner and competitor, of the many issues now faced by horses and riders. Karen has served as a BHS Trustee for the last four years and we look forward to working with her in her new position.

We'd like to thank our outgoing Chair, Sally McCarthy, for her hard work and leadership over the last three years. Sally will now be stepping down from the board of Trustees having completed a six-year term as both Vice-Chair and Chair. During Sally’s tenure as Chair, we've launched our new three-year strategy and our new look and feel. She's overseen initiatives such as Everyone Welcome and our Keep Britain Riding campaigns, as well as spearheading our work in education, participation and horse care and welfare.
