British Horse Society’s annual Sefton Awards celebrated three individuals who have recently made significant contributions to equestrian safety.

Amy Hilton

Amy Hilton demonstrated remarkable courage and dedication to equestrian safety after her horse, Archie, was fatally struck by a vehicle in early 2025. Channelling her grief into advocacy, she quickly engaged with the BHS Safety team and spoke on Radio Kent, urging drivers to follow the Highway Code.
She participated in the BHS Awareness Ride from Lambourn to Windsor, appearing live on BBC Breakfast, and shared her story on the Jeremy Vine Show, reaching millions. Amy continues to influence road safety as a speaker at the UK Roads Policing Conference. She has significantly raised awareness and likely saved lives
Andrea Leggatt-Scott

Andrea joined British Horse Society in October 2013 and began volunteering in December 2022 with the Safety team. She has actively promoted the Dead Slow message at numerous events, initially with her horse Mario and now also with her dog Luigi, promoting safe interactions between vehicles, horses and dogs.
Andrea supports local riders with road safety concerns, collaborating closely with police and councils, and steps in at major events, including the Bramham Horse Trials. Her dedication, initiative and advocacy make her an invaluable asset deserving recognition for her outstanding contribution.
Sharon Angus-Crawshaw

Sharon Angus-Crawshaw joined BHS in June 2013 and began volunteering with the Safety team in October 2022. Sharon has been an exceptionally proactive Safety Adviser, tirelessly promoting equestrian safety. She engages with Police, Fire & Rescue, local MPs and council leaders, attends public events to raise awareness of Highway Code changes and organises town centre educational events.
Sharon uses the Horse i app and Operation Snap to report incidents, leading to driver prosecutions or cautions. She also influenced her local MP to table an Early Day Motion in Parliament. Her dedication and initiative make her an invaluable BHS safety ambassador.
