Several horse owners went home very happy after bringing their horses along to the first BHS Gloucestershire Horse Health Check Clinic at Tumpy Green Equestrian Centre, nr Dursley. All so different in breeding and size, a mix of geldings and mares and a variety of ages. The horses (and owners) were very well behaved and settled down beautifully, which helped to create a calm and relaxed atmosphere for the experts to do their checks.
The indoor arena fielded six ‘Expert Zones’ and each horse visited each one as part of an equine MOT. The zones consisted of bitting, a Vet, McTimoney, nutrition, physio and saddler. No treatments took place but each horse had a thorough physical check-up, along with a saddle check, a chat on feeding regimes, and a check on bits and bridles on fit and suitability. Who knew there was that much to learn about bits!
A huge thank you to Tumpy for having us especially on a Saturday when their riding school is so busy and thank you to the catering ladies who looked after us so well.
Finally, we must thank our experts, who gave up their free time, worked so hard and all did a cracking job. Thank you!
There was some lovely feedback from one horse owner; "Thank you BHS for a fabulous morning at Tumpy... An MOT for our horse! And at the amazing price of £25. Money very well spent... Also thank you to all the experts that came and gave us such great advice! B & W Equine Vets - Chris Wright, C B Equine Therapy - Caroline Baker, Horse Bit Fit - Sue Paine, McTimoney - Lorna Brown, Dengie Feeds - Claire Ward, Orion Saddles - Kerry Tunnell. A special shout out to Chris Wright for all the lovely things he said about our horse!"
We hope to organise another Clinic in 2020, so watch this space......
