BHS Wales Statement coming into force on Friday 23rd October 2020

19 Oct 2020

The Government in Wales has announced a coronavirus “firebreak” from Friday 23 October.

The Government message is as follows;

  • People must stay at home, except for very limited purposes, such as for exercise
  • People must work from home wherever possible. Only critical workers should work as normal.
  • All non-essential businesses such as retail, hospitality, leisure etc., except “essential retail” will close, similar to the position in April.
  • All gatherings with people outside of your immediate household will not be permitted at any time, whether indoors or outdoors.
  • Exercise should start and end at home (unless there are mobility issues etc.).  No specific form of exercise is prohibited, and there are no constraints on duration/distance, however there are practical limits on what people may do imposed by the stay at home order and the closure of some businesses.
  • The period is strictly time limited to two weeks (17 days) only and will cease on the 9th November 2020.

Full details can be found here.

For horse owners and riders

  • Horse riding is permitted as a form of exercise, but you should not take any unnecessary risks so as to put pressure on the NHS.
  • Owners/carers must attend to/care for their horses on a daily basis to ensure the welfare needs of their horses are met.
  • You can seek emergency treatment from a vet.
  • You can travel horses in emergency, but other travel should be avoided.
  • You can call you farrier for emergency work.

FAQs are available on the Welsh Government website, including sections on sport and exercise:
