Riding schools have welcomed the recent announcement that in England covered arenas and indoor schools can be used from Saturday 4 July. The BHS have been lobbying for the reopening of covered arenas as they should not be categorised in the same way as other indoor sports facilities.
The Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport have reviewed the BHS Covered Arena Best Practice Guide and a DCMS spokesman provided confirmation:
“We feel that the issues that we are working through with other indoor facilities are not relevant to equestrian covered arenas, which are open, well ventilated agricultural sheds as you have outlined. As such, our position is that these facilities can be used from the 4 July, as long as it is done so in line with wider government guidance, including social distancing.”
