An opportunity with a strong focus on a healthy work/life balance - No out of hours’ duties, part time and flexible working considered
Bransby Horses is one of the UK’s largest equine welfare charities, founded in 1968 by Mr Peter Hunt. We are dedicated to improving the lives of horses, ponies, donkeys and mules and our key charity principles are to rescue, rehabilitate, rehome and educate.
We have two sites in Lincolnshire within a twenty-minute drive of Lincoln. Our main site at Bransby is home to over 300 horses, ponies, donkeys and mules and our Barlings site houses over 40 horses and ponies. We also have around 500 equines in foster homes.
We currently have a fantastic opportunity for a dedicated and compassionate Equine Veterinary Surgeon to join our small veterinary team, initially for 12 months to cover maternity leave. The main purpose of the role is to deliver excellent first opinion clinical care to our horses, ponies, donkeys and mules, across our two Lincolnshire sites.
The successful applicant will have a degree in veterinary surgery and medicine and be an active member of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons. Three years’ clinical experience working within an equine practice or organisation plus an interest in equine welfare is desirable but all applications will be considered.
We would most like to hear from individuals with strong clinical skills and an interest in both medical and orthopaedic cases. Excellent organisation and communication skills are required as is the ability to work flexibly, adapting to changing priorities as they occur. To fit into our team, you should be professional, confident, have a can do attitude and thrive on collaborative and supportive team work.
In return we offer interesting and varied clinical work, covering a wide variety of health and welfare needs in a professional, supportive and friendly working environment. Your weekly caseload will include routine clinics, medical and orthopaedic investigations and diagnostic procedures, plus emergency and welfare work. We have a variety of horses under our care and the clinical caseload is never dull. You will be working directly with welfare admissions, long term sanctuary care residents and our horses being prepared for ridden and companion lives in foster homes.
We have excellent facilities and equipment including stocks, treatment rooms, digital x-ray, ultrasound and video endoscopy. We have an in house laboratory, regular routine and advanced clinics with an Equine Dental Vet, farriers on site five days a week and monthly visits from a physiotherapist. We also have a full time Veterinary Nurse to support our Vet team and run the laboratory. We work closely with other equine practices for referrals, out of hours and laboratory services.
Working within the equine welfare sector is incredibly rewarding and we offer a great place to work with a strong focus on maintaining a healthy work/life balance.
Normal working hours are Monday to Friday with no requirement for the in house Vet team to provide out of hours’ veterinary cover. Flexible working and part time hours will be considered upon request.
We offer a competitive salary of up to £42,088 per annum, pro rata (dependant on experience) and a very attractive benefits package including many health and wellbeing benefits. This role is currently offered on a temporary basis, initially for 12 months.
A full UK driving license is essential.
