Animal Care Staff | The Animal Sanctuary Wilmslow

The Animal Sanctuary Wilmslow requires a full time member of Animal Care staff to join the team and be responsible primarily for the equines.

This is a maternity contract of at least 8 months commencing at the beginning of December 2020. The position is full time (40 hrs per week, 9am – 5pm) on a rota which will include working alternate weekends.

The Humane Education Society, known locally as The Animal Sanctuary Wilmslow, takes in and rehomes a variety of domestic animals and also currently has 10 equines. We are looking to employ someone with a strong equine background, either with qualifications or proven experience of working with horses, to look after our 9 horses and ponies and 1 donkey whilst covering staff maternity leave.

Tasks will include routine daily care of the horses, medicating, feeding, mucking out and all associated jobs which go with running a small yard such as ordering feed, arranging the blacksmith and vet visits, and all the “housework” jobs such as cleaning of feed room, rug areas etc.

A good knowledge of horse health is required –knowing when a horse is off colour or ill and when to call the vet is essential.

The applicant must also be prepared to learn about caring for the other animals in the Sanctuary. It is expected that in the first month the applicant will become familiar with all aspects of the Sanctuary by working across all settings.
