Trustee Elections 2019

Could you be a guardian of our Society’s future?

A diverse, well-qualified Board is essential to securing the future success of any charity. Trustees play a significant role in a charity’s administration, and guide and support the Executive team. Although it can sometimes be a demanding role, it can also be rewarding for many reasons – from a sense of making a difference to new experiences and relationships.

The British Horse Society Board of Trustees is pleased to invite nominations for three positions becoming vacant this year. All members are very welcome to come forward for these roles, so please consider if you are able to contribute your professional and personal skills to help lead and govern The British Horse Society.

BHS Trustees volunteer their time and experience to the Society through strategic planning, working with the executive team, attending and preparing for Board meetings, as well as representing the BHS and supporting our key campaigns out and about at shows and events.

As a member of the Board you would work alongside your fellow Trustees to develop the Society for the benefit of our members and the wider equestrian community.

At the General Meeting held on 5 January 2019, the vote on the resolution for the proposed constitutional changes was adjourned, and therefore the election procedure for all 2019 Trustee positions will continue unchanged. The existing constitution allows the Board of Trustees the opportunity to also co-opt Trustees for specific business-critical skills, as appropriate.

The Board of Trustees are particularly looking for individuals with complementary specialisms to those of our existing Trustees, with priorities for the 2019 Trustee elections being:

Education Specialist
Together with the executive team, this role ensures that the BHS continues to deliver and develop varied opportunities for education in all areas of the Society’s work.

Welfare Specialist
This role involves working with the executive team in their initiatives to improve equine welfare throughout the UK.

The Generalist role supports the Society to deliver on its core values; putting the horse at the heart of all we do across our main areas of work and campaigns. You will have extensive knowledge and understanding of equestrianism and be familiar with the British Horse Society, its core campaigns, committee structure and volunteering activities.
