Thousands of equestrian fans will head to Hickstead this summer for one of the most popular events in the show calendar – and as a BHS member, you and a friend can get free entry to the event.
The Longines FEI Jumping Nations Cup™ of Great Britain at the Longines Royal International Horse Show, (the BHS’s official show), takes place from 23-28 July.
Hickstead is synonymous with showjumping, and the title class, the historic Longines FEI Jumping Nations Cup™, takes place on Friday afternoon. Having come a close runner-up to Ireland 12 months ago, Great Britain will be hoping to go one better with a home win – the host nation hasn’t claimed the honours since 2010.
The €150,000 Longines BHS King George V Gold Cup is one of the most coveted Grand Prix classes on the international circuit. Last year, Kevin Jochems became the second Dutch rider to win the class, and this year many of the world’s top riders will be aiming to lift the trophy. The last British rider to win was Ben Maher back in 2013.
Other highlights include the Science Supplements BHS Queen Elizabeth II Cup, the MS Amlin Eventers’ Challenge, national showjumping classes, carriage driving and the double harness scurry.
The majority of the showing classes at this show are championships, which means horses and ponies have been campaigned all over the country in order to claim one of the qualifying tickets just to compete on Hickstead’s hallowed turf. The champions from each division go through to the British Horse Society Supreme Horse and the De La Hey Family Supreme Pony Championships, the highest honours of the outdoor showing season.
With more than 200 stands in the Charles Owen Shopping Village at both shows, there is plenty to tempt visitors away from the thrilling equestrian action. As well as stands selling equestrian tack and clothing, many of the leading countryside brands are exhibiting with a fabulous range of footwear, gifts and homeware on offer.
Hickstead’s Family Fun Zone features a funfair and an entertainment stage starring local entertainer Tomfoolery, with a comedy magic show, daily hobby horse jump-off competitions and a range of fun interactive activities for children. Under-fives get free admission.
Explore some of the local delicacies in Hickstead’s Food and Drink Market, check out the myriad of stands selling delicious street food, or bring a picnic and find the perfect ringside spot to enjoy the glorious West Sussex countryside. For a truly glamorous day, a number of Hospitality options are available, from the Members’ Restaurant overlooking the Longines International Arena to Private Boxes, offering the perfect way to spend the day with customers, family or friends.
