In Memory of James Buxton

The British Horse Society is deeply saddened to hear of the passing of James Buxton, a former BHS Director and Trustee, lifetime supporter and valued member of the Society.

James joined the Society as a Director, managing the Development Officers, before being elected for his first term as a Trustee in 2006 and a subsequent second term in 2009. James stood down as Trustee at the end of his second term in July 2012. James had volunteered as Treasurer of Leicestershire and Rutland since 2012.

James was “hugely supportive” in his role as Trustee, going above and beyond his duties by travelling the length and breadth of the East Midlands attending every County Committee Annual Meeting and every Regional Committee Meeting in the region.

James’ excellent service in promoting the work of the Society was recognised with The Bodynfoel Award which he won in 2002, followed by the prestigious President’s Award, awarded to him in 2012.

Most recently, James was actively involved in the BHS Dead Slow campaign and was the catalyst for a great partnership with Thames Valley Police, Oxfordshire County Council and Oxfordshire Fire & Rescue Service, to improve road safety for equestrians in the region.

James is described by his colleagues as “incredibly generous, gracious and positive”, always making a point of speaking to and thanking everybody at any event he attended. An “exceptional” member and volunteer of the BHS, James is remembered as “a kind, thoughtful, conscientious man” who was a loyal and passionate supporter of the Society.

On behalf of everyone at the BHS, we send our deepest condolences to James’ family at this time.
