Our mind is a powerful machine, which can be both our best friend and our worst enemy. Without spending time developing strategies to manage the mind, it is common for us to get hijacked into unhelpful patterns of thinking and behaving, despite our best intentions!
The Chimp Model is a powerful mind management model, which has helped to support the happiness and success of athletes and coaches at all levels of the performance pathway. Whilst we are all unique individuals, the Chimp Model helps us to explore the basic neuroscience of the mind and understand the common systems that we are working with to give an accessible way of understanding and managing emotions/thinking and behaviours.
This session will aim to:
- Introduce the Chimp Model and its key components
- Encourage you to reflect to better understand yourself and those you work to support
- Provide practical strategies for applying the model in your day-to-day life
Leonie Lightfoot is a BASES accredited Sport Scientist and works as a Performance Psychologist on the British Equestrian World Class Programme. Leonie has worked for Chimp Management for 5 years, helping individuals and teams in sport, education and business apply the Chimp Model to improve their performance and quality of life.
The session will count towards CPD hours for BHS Accredited Coaches but is open to anyone who is interested in improving their performance - be that for competition or in everyday riding.
