BHS Somerset are running their popular Camp again in 2022.
Camp is open to all BHS members and is aimed at the everyday grassroots rider. You will enjoy three days and two nights in the wonderful setting of Chard Equestrian. Camp starts before lunch on the Friday, and you are welcome to arrive from 1030 onwards. We will have a meet your team session before lunch and then ride in the afternoon. With everyone keen and ready to support each other, you will thrive and progress with your horse over the weekend.
Generally, we attract those looking to improve their own and their horse’s confidence and those wanting to jump up to 80cm (2’6”). We aim to cover all disciplines and also offer a ground poles only option for those who don’t wish to jump.
The BHS Somerset committee will have a representative and first aider on site at all times.
Chard Equestrian is located in the beautiful Somerset countryside, close to the Dorset border. It has superb facilities including three all weather surface arenas, 2 grass arenas, BSJA standard show jumps, working hunter fences and arena eventing fences from 50cm – 1m. The Clubhouse has a restaurant/café, shower block and toilets and a comfortable seating area as well as a bar and equestrian shop. Electric hook up is available for lorries if required.
Your coaches are all BHS qualified and have been chosen specifically to ensure you have a wonderful, safe and fun time. They will work with you and your horse in small groups to help you improve and achieve your goals.
Horses - Vaccinations
All horses/ponies must have a passport and proof of annual flu vaccination to cover the duration of camp. Vaccination certificates must be brought to camp and will be checked on arrival. Any horse found to be unvaccinated or whose vaccinations are out of date will be refused entry.
Riders – Public Liability Insurance
BHS Gold members will be covered for Public Liability insurance offered with their membership package.
BHS Silver members will need to provide proof of Public Liability Insurance.
Accommodation can be provided in the dormitory bedrooms located in the Clubhouse. Alternatively, you can chose to sleep in your own vehicle, tent or caravan. You may choose to book local hotel or B&B or, if local, travel to and from home each day.
Stabling will be provided in one of the American barns on site. You have the option of whether your horse stays overnight or, if local, you travel to camp each day. If you opt to travel your horse to camp each day a stable will be provided.
Well behaved dogs who are familiar with horses are welcome on site with members but must be kept on a lead at all times and cleaned up after. Any dog found to be a nuisance will be required to leave the site. Please note that dogs are not permitted in the Clubhouse.
