Remember, remember… the impact of fireworks

As Bonfire Night approaches, an ‘Impact of Fireworks’ campaign, run by the Scottish Government in partnership with the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, is raising awareness of the dangers associated with fireworks misuse and of new rules introduced to lessen their harmful impact.

The campaign emphasises that it’s now illegal in Scotland to set off fireworks before 6pm and after 11pm, extending to midnight on 5 November and 1am on Hogmanay, Chinese New Year and Diwali.

The campaign also highlights the potential hazards of fireworks if not used correctly, the importance of not using unsuitable fireworks in your garden, and the negative impact fireworks can have on those around us, including autistic people and pets.

Running throughout Scotland in local press, local radio and on social media, the awareness campaign warns of the dangers and urges those who are planning a private display at home to reduce the risk and familiarise themselves with the fireworks code and fire safety guidance at www.firescotland.gov.uk.

Follow the Safer Scotland Facebook page for their countdown to Bonfire Night and follow #fireworksafety for all the latest advice and tips.
