Ride Out UK Month

Ride Out UK

Kindly sponsored by Thorowgood

Saddle up and explore the scenic route...

Ride Out UK Month 2018 was kindly sponsored by Thorowgood and was all about raising awareness of off-road riding and applauding the fantastic efforts of BHS volunteers, local authorities and organisations who protect and restore multi-user routes across the UK.

Through organised events and sponsored hacking challenges, more than £10,000 was raised for Paths for Communities; the BHS' fund used to restore and create equestrian routes across the UK. We couldn't have done it without the support of everyone who tacked up and took part, our fantastic volunteers and the kind landowners who allowed so many of the events to take place - thank you to everyone who supported Ride Out UK Month 2018!

Ride Out UK Month will return next May, so why not saddle up, enjoy a day out with your horse and raise money for the BHS Paths for Communities Fund to help us to do more in your local area!

Here's a taste of what took place this year...

Competitions to win a Thorowgood Saddle

Thorowgood kindly sponsored Ride Out UK Month 2018, which saw the return of our fundraising and photography competitions. This year is our Platinum Anniversary and to celebrate we gave away FIVE Thorowgood saddles, worth up to £645 and fitted by a qualified SMS saddler, to five lucky winners. Well done and thank you to everyone who took part!

Keep your eyes peeled for competitions to take part in next year!

National Trust Rides

We were delighted to see the return of our National Trust rides, which offered riders the chance to saddle up and explore beautiful scenic views over six National Trust estates. Make sure to look out for next year's events on the BHS In Your Area.

Ireland  Mount Stewart
Scotland  Brodie Castle & Culzean Castle
England  Clent Hills & Killerton Estate
Wales  Dolaucothi Gold Mines

Local Rides

Our committees, approved centres and affiliated equestrian access groups held events across the UK to get involved! In 2018, a phenomenal 119 rides were organised in every corner of the UK. Events ranged from awareness raising parades and fun rides to a canal-side hack to a floating fish and chip shop, so there really was something for everyone.

Sponsored Hacking Challenges

No transport? No problem!

We are running our 70km Challenge throughout 2018 across the UK, giving riders and carriage drivers of all abilities the chance to take part anytime, anywhere, and raise money for Paths for Communities Fund

In our 70th year, we are challenging riders and carriage drivers to hack 70km and raise £70 for our Paths for Communities Fund. You don't need to do it all in one go; instead you can record your hacks using an app and log your miles on your tracking card.

To register

Please visit the 70km Challenge page to download your fundraising pack and email access@bhs.org.uk to let us know you are taking part. Set your own goal and track your hacks using an app on a smart phone (for example Map My Ride or Endomondo) and email access@bhs.org.uk the GPX file when you're done! Participants will receive a platinum rosette, Hi Viz tabard and certificate to say thank you.*

Endurance GB

Endurance GB kindly supported BHS Ride Out UK Month. As Endurance riders, this cause is really important to them. So,  May they asked their members to saddle up, enjoy a day out with their horse and raise money for the BHS Paths for Communities Fund.  Mileage gained at non-competitive EGB rides was counted, as was any riding/hacking completed in preparation for competitions. We thank Endurance GB members for their involvement. To find out more visit www.endurancegb.co.uk.
