The British Horse Society’s Ride Out UK Month
Saddle-up and explore the scenic route
What is it?
We dedicate May to the UK’s equestrian routes; raising awareness of off-road riding and applauding the fantastic efforts of the BHS’s UK-wide volunteer team, local authorities and other partners who work to protect, restore and repair all of these networks so that we can enjoy them for many years to come. All while raising money for the BHS Paths for Communities Fund to help us to do more in your local area!
The campaign is sponsored by Bridleway Equestrian, a group of independent retailers (managed by Shires) with an exclusive range of quality equestrian goods.
What events are taking place?
Our committees and Approved Centres across the UK are busy thinking of ways they can hold an event near you, so keep an eye out on the BHS in your area page for updates. Events usually start coming through around March/April. Download the 2016 Ride Out UK round up for a taste of what took place last year.
We've also teamed up with a large conservation organisation to hold pleasure rides in their grounds, so keep your eyes peeled for more info.
Sponsored rides, clearance parties, bake-offs, poo-picks or let your imagination run wild! There are some great ways to raise money for the BHS Paths For Communities fund to repair, restore or develop your local routes. Prizes will be handed out to the individual, group and Approved Centre who has donated the most money to The BHS.
Leave your hoof prints in equestrian history – help to restore, record or create a route by joining the community of BHS volunteers to put your area on the map! Contact email@example.com to find out more.
Want to organise an event yourself or get involved in something near you? Call 02476 840515 or email firstname.lastname@example.org for more information. Receive 10 BHS branded hi-viz tabards* for organising an event and rosettes to hand out to your attendees.
We have nine years left for unrecorded routes to be logged before they're lost forever. Discover why 2026 is important and download the toolkit to see how you can help save your routes.
Join or create an Equestrian Access Group
Affiliated Equestrian Access Groups defend and promote the UK’s equestrian off-road network. Find one to join in your area, and if there isn’t one, email email@example.com for more information on how you can get one started in your area.

Join The British Horse Society, and your money goes directly towards helping us with our charitable work in access, as well as our other areas welfare, safety and education. As well as knowing you’re contributing to an organisation where the horse comes first, you’ll enjoy a great deal of other benefits, too.
Whether you’re a BHS member or not, you can always make a donation to our Access Fighting Fund. Remember, these funds are what enables us to make a difference to the world of equestrian access.
