Access and Bridleways Officers

What are Access and Bridleways Officers?

The British Horse Society carries out extensive rights of way work throughout the UK to defend, extend and promote safer, easily accessible off-road riding for all. We could not do this without our army of volunteers.

There are six types of Access volunteers (Access and Bridleways Officers)

RABO

Regional Access and Bridleways Officer
RABOs deal with national issues and advise the BHS Board of Trustees on policy as part of our Access and Rights of Way Advisory committee.

ARABO

Assistant Regional Access and Bridleways Officer
Sometimes the duties of a Regional Access Officer can be too great for one person (though many of our volunteers do superhuman amounts of work and we are very grateful!), so an ARABO is appointed to help out.

CABO

County Access and Bridleways Officer
CABOs sit on our BHS county committees and deal with access enquiries from the general public, Definitive Map Modification Orders, Public Inquiries, mapping queries and researching routes (some do all of this, others do only parts – volunteering doesn’t have to take over your entire life!).

DABO

District Access and Bridleways Officer
Undertakes similar work to the CABO, but for a district or parish area.

ABO

Access and Bridleways Officer
Assists the Access Officers in the region/county on projects as required.

AABO

Assists the Access Officers on specific projects.
