The British Horse Society is the UK’s largest and most influential equestrian charity. We offer world-class qualifications and through our Registers and our Approvals system, we reward quality in instruction and care. We battle for improved welfare conditions and respond urgently to the needs of horses wherever they are, day and night. Constantly campaigning for safety and access, our day-to-day work is relentless.

But having the opportunities to make a change to the lives of our horses and riders comes at a price.

There are many ways to support our work, from joining as a member, undertaking a Challenge Ride or volunteering for us in a variety of exciting roles. However, to help us take that one step further we are working on the appeals below, which help tackle our most vital campaigns.

Donating couldn’t be easier – just click on the links below or call our Membership team on 02476 840506. They’ll be more than happy to talk to you about the ways you can donate or even help you set up regular support for our appeals via Direct Debit.

Of course, we welcome donations on every level, as we can’t continue our work without them. But maybe you’re interested in becoming part of our major donor programme or you may be involved in a Charitable Trust which shares the same ambitions. If so, Laura Pepper (Director of Fundraising) would be delighted to speak to you about your ideas and can also advise on any legacy enquiries you may have. Call her on 02476 840545 or email funding@bhs.org.uk.

Our appeals reflect our ambition to improve the lives of horses everywhere, forever.

Helping Horses

Castration AppealThe BHS Welfare Support Team responds to thousands of calls each year from our head office in Kenilworth – and every year our remit becomes wider and our Welfare Officers are stretched to respond to the demand.

This appeal is designed to support our essential welfare work.  And importantly, to change the behaviour, through education, of people who do not look after their horses properly.

Even as you read this there are horses in distress that need our help. That is why we have launched our Helping Horses appeal.

Forever, for the Horse

Forever, for the HorseWhile we rely on the support of our membership, our work constantly requires the vital donations you make in order for us to respond to the challenges we tackle every day, including the current horse crisis and the devastation it leaves. Paths for Communities Fund

Access TrustWe take access for horses and riders very seriously at The British Horse Society. We recognise the importance of safe off-road riding not only for our members but for all equestrians. It is for this reason that we've set aside £25,000 to establish a new BHS fund to provide multi-user routes in Scotland and Northern Ireland, and Bridleways and Restricted Byways in England and Wales. This is an exciting development for our access work, one that can make a real difference now for equestrians who want to hack out and carriage drive safely.

Our Access Fighting Fund

Saving your routes to off road riding

BridlewayWe all know how important it is to have somewhere safe to ride. Even the highest level riders value hacking and it's obvious that bridleways are a vital part of equestrian life. Unfortunately, not everyone sees it this way and some of our rights of way are at risk of being lost. This makes your donations all the more important as this goes towards court costs to protect your bridleways now and in the future.

In 2007 The Access Fighting Fund was set up to ensure that in the future The British Horse Society will be able to fight back against landowners who threaten equestrian rights of way.

The fund was started after a judge allowed BMW’s application to stop a right of way that had existed for 2,000 years. We didn’t think this was fair and spent around £30,000 in costs fighting your corner.

The loss of the UK’s bridleways would affect the entire equestrian community so if you want to help us save them, a donation of anything you can afford could be the difference to between saving and losing our rights of way.

We can't fight for the rights of future riders alone so we urge you to donate anything you can afford. Visit justgiving.com/accessfightingfund to find out more about the campaign and make a donation.

£1,500 funds the negotiation and campaigning work behind safeguarding 250m of definitive rights of way for generations of future riders.

Your donation gives us the power to make a lasting difference.

If you prefer to send a cheque for any of our Appeals, we would be more than happy to receive it at Donations, The British Horse Society, Abbey Park, Stareton, Kenilworth, Warwickshire CV8 2XZ (payable to The British Horse Society).
