Hampshire Country Watch warns of recent rug thefts

31 Jan 2013

North and East Hampshire Country Watch are warning horse owners of a recent spate of rug thefts. These incidents involved rugs being removed from horses whilst out in the field, leaving the horses exposed to the inclement weather.

Crime prevention action can be taken at minimal cost - simply paint your postcode on your rugs in large letters, making it instantly obvious that they are marked and much less desirable to thieves as they will be hard to sell on.

Be extra careful with new rugs and ensure they are marked before use - don't think 'I'll do it tomorrow'! In some cases, thieves have been known to steal marked rugs, simply to return and take the brand new replacements later.
