Over the past few years there have been increasing problems with flooding, particularly in the areas of Gloucestershire and Somerset. The flooding on the Somerset Levels last year affected a number of horse owners and the BHS is keen to stress the importance of forward planning in the event of flooding in your area. Heavy rain over the winter months can mean that anyone could be affected and the key to making sure that your horse or pony is safe is to make your own disaster plan in the event of an emergency.
The British Horse Society in the South West has worked closely over the past few years with the Somerset Civil Contingencies Unit who have produced a leaflet to give horse owners advice an information on making their own plans for an emergency such as flooding.

If you find yourself in an emergency situation where you need some advice or assistance you can contact the BHS South West office and we will do what we can to help. Alternatively, if you live close to any area that is susceptible to flooding and would be happy to be called on for help with provision of transport, stabling or grazing we would like to hear from you.
