Instructors update their teaching skills

Lead rein lesson

Teaching children to ride is one of the most important roles of a riding instructor and over fifty instructors and coaches attended the BHS South West Regional Training Day at Pippin Equestrian Centre near Gillingham in Dorset.  The topic for the day was 'Teaching Children' and this was co-presented by Donald Kear (BHSI) and Helen Barton-Smith (BHSI).

The attendees watched a selection of lessons from the very youngest riders starting out on the lead rein through to more competent teenagers who were learning to jump.  There were many new ideas on how to make learning to ride fun and educational at the same time.

For anyone who is looking to start riding The British Horse Society recommends that you choose a BHS Approved Riding Centre or use a BHS Registered Instructor.
