Yogi Breisner made his return trip to Scotland as promised earlier this year. Around 100 people gathered at Murrayshall Hotel to hear an evening lecture on the Olympics as viewed from inside the British camp. Yogi’s stream of consciousness was a feast of information from the man who has mastered the success of the British Eventing at so many of the major championships. The evening started with Yogi setting the tone by stripping off to reveal the Great Britain team kit to a huge round of applause!
The chronological presentation covered pre Olympic plans from selection to pre games camp to dates for collection of forage for the equine athletes and the smallest details about accommodation, arenas and practising. The two hour talk was delivered with so many humorous asides and everybody who was there was impressed by the amount of meticulous planning that went into the tiniest detail. As Yogi said "that was my job"
We were lucky to have a fabulous slide show showing the back of house areas at Greenwich, from the arenas supported on pillars to the naked grand stands before they were completed. The slides were a journey following the riders from arriving at the Olympic village to the medal ceremony, by the end we felt that we had also been there.
The evening rounded of with questions being taken by Yogi, his honest clear feedback was very well received with him talking about his initial disappointment in not winning gold but his later pride in winning silver!
Bring on Yogi for his return to Scotland next year for BHS Scotland!
