We had an excellent bursary session with Ben Leathers. All four riders invited to come forward for the West Sussex Bursary Championship arrived at Homelands Equestrian full of enthusiasm and very well turned out.
The Bursary awards a sum of £250 to the winning horse and rider combination to use on training with a BHS Registered Instructor of their choice.
The four selected riders were judged by Ben Leather, BHSI, who called all combinations in for an individual discussion about their future training aspirations. The riders then had to complete a ridden assessment of their choice in front of the judge. Ben told everyone that he was looking for a horse and rider who would stand out from the others.
The winner was Elly Bielski with her bay gelding Corky. Imported from Ireland as a 5 year old, together they have been working on prelim and novice dressage, however she feels he is happier jumping and wants to do more, with a goal of achieving a ODE at some point.
Elly described her horse as "a most adorable person" and it was clear they have a good partnership. When not doing dressage they enjoy hacking and did a show jump session at Coombelands recently, but she wanted to use the bursary to do more.
