Friesians Raise money for the Equine Grass Sickness Campaign

8 July 2014

A Friesian Affair 2Despite a grey start to the day on 14 June, the sun shone on visitors in the afternoon at Manders Friesian Stud, Mount Bures in Suffolk for The Friesian Affair.

Visitors were treated to a dressage display on the studs own stallions Tyle and Weird under the watchful eye of Paul Friday, dressage rider and trainer. Although Weird is equally at home in his driving harness it was Fede and Epke that provided a splendid driving display with Fede showing off his striking action with Dutch Carriage Driver Ronnie Dekker and David Rayner driving Epke, who was very excited at being able to show off his paces.

Manders Friesian were fortuitous to have Dutch Trainers Sjoerd Veenstra, Laurens van Der Meer, Gaatze Bosma and Margrietha Algra assisting during the day, bringing with them from Holland incredible in-depth knowledge of this magnificent breed.

The Dutch trainers shared their expertise with the audience and were too inspired by the Studs family tree; Omke a preferent mare, her daughters and granddaughter in the arena together providing a very rare and impressive picture.

The oohs and ahhs were saved for this year’s foals, three fillies, the youngest just under four weeks old.

Visitors were treated to some authentic burgers from Holland and whilst drinking their tea and coffee were able to engage in conversation with the studs owners and enjoy a stroll around the yard taking in the beauty of this magnificent breed.

Thank to the generosity of Dean and Vicky Manders the event raised over £250.00 which the BHS Suffolk Committee will be donating to the Equine Grass Sickness Campaign.
