Andrew Fletcher‘Lungeing and Lateral Work’ presented by Andrew Fletcher, BHSI was the title of the final Continual Professional Development Training day of this year and took place at Brackenhurst Equestrian Centre, Nottingham Trent University in September. 

In the first session Andrew concentrated on lungeing the horse - both with and without a rider.  The aim was to achieve suppleness in the rider, balance for horse and rider using the correct techniques, and the correct adjustment of equipment. 

Lungeing & Lateral WorkThe variety of training aids available, and their pros and cons was also discussed; then followed some standard setting ridden exercises for riders up to BHS Stage 2 & Stage 3.  

In the afternoon two elementary level horse and rider combinations worked on their leg yields, travers, half passes and working pirouettes. 

The day culminated with two Prix St George competitors tackling some challenging pole exercises to improve their horses’ obedience and suppleness.
