Chris Precey - The BHS loses loyal volunteer

13 Sept 2013

Chris PreceyThe British Horse Society has lost one of its longest serving, and most loyal members and volunteers with the sad passing of Chris Precey, who has been a volunteer on the BHS Leicestershire and Rutland Committee since 1969.

At various times over the years he held every volunteer role on the County Committee from Chairman to Welfare Officer – responsibilities he undertook with extreme diligence and attention to detail. More recently, he was County Treasurer until 2012 and membership secretary until earlier this year. During the 1970s he was a familiar character seen taking a BHS book stall around the local shows.

In 1983 he was proud to receive a BHS Award of Merit, and in 2010 was presented with his 40 year Long Service award by the then President, Desi Dillingham, at the Society’s Annual Awards Ceremony at Saddlers Hall in London. He could always be relied upon attending any important meetings or conferences.

As well as his dedication to The British Horse Society, he was a railways enthusiast, being involved in the restoration of the Great Central Railway.

Chris was also a loyal supporter of Endurance GB and before it, British Endurance Riding Association, helping to raise the profile of Health and Safety, and developing policy and procedures for the benefit of all riders, crews and volunteers. He was also an active volunteer at rides, and only earlier this year, despite the dreadful weather, he helped at the Golden Horseshoe Ride on Exmoor – as he had done for many years.

The funeral will take place on 27 September at 12:45 pm at the Heart of England Crematorium, Nuneaton.
