The British Horse Society teams up with the Dartmoor Derby

4 May 2016

The BHS is to be the official charity of a brand new adventure riding challenge taking place from 23 to 26 September this year, the Dartmoor Derby.

The Dartmoor Derby, whose official Ambassadors include Mary King and BHS President Martin Clunes, is a three-day, 100km ride modeled on a luxury riding safari, and was branded by Dartmoor Derby pilot rider and TV personality Sara Cox as “possibly one of the best weekends of my life”.

Small guided teams of riders will cover some 20 or more miles a day, exploring Dartmoor’s most isolated and exquisite spots, before overnighting either at top local hotels or luxury camps and horse stations, built especially for the event, or a combination of each.

The ride has places for up to 100 participants, and is run by the founders of established adventure riding firm, Liberty Trails. Riders may either bring their own horse, or rent a fit, experienced mount through the organisers.

A percentage of each entry fee goes to the BHS. For more details visit Dartmoor Derby's website, or email

Lynn Peterson, CEO of the British Horse Society, has said:

The British Horse Society are proud to join Liberty Trails as Charity Partner for their Dartmoor Derby Challenge Ride. What a wonderful way to explore magnificent Dartmoor on horseback. We are delighted that all funds we receive from this partnership will go directly towards helping horses in distress across the United Kingdom.

To celebrate our partnership with Liberty Trails, the BHS will soon be launching a Facebook competition to win a place on this fantastic ride, either with your own horse or with a fit, experienced mount supplied by the organisers. So keep an eye out on our Facebook page!
